Qu.2 - To sing 6 notes from score in free time, TREBLE CLEF

As in grade 4, question 2 is to sing notes from score in free time. In grade 5 there are 6 notes. The red text highlights what has changed from grade 4.

  • the examiner will first ask whether candidates wish to read from the treble or bass clef.
  • the notes will be within the range of a 5th above and a 4th below the tonic, i.e. an octave range from dominant to dominant.
  • notes will be in a major key up to 2 sharps or flats.
  • the test will begin and end on the tonic.
  • the will be no interval greater than a third, except when the dominant rises to the tonic (a 4th).
  • the examiner will name and play the key-chord then the tonic note before the candidate begins.
  • if a wrong note is sung, the examiner will play and identify the correct note to put the candidate back on track.
